Alexander Technique
for Horse Riders

Riding isn’t just physical — it’s your balance, coordination and nervous system.

Small changes in how you use your body can make a big difference to how your horse feels beneath you.

When you become more balanced, more organised and less tense, your horse can respond with greater ease, calm and clarity.

WHAT THIS WORK IS

The Alexander Technique helps you become more aware of how you are using your body, and to let go of unnecessary tension that can interfere with your riding.

Rather than trying harder or adding more effort, you learn how to:

  • Move with greater ease

  • Sit more freely and balanced

  • Give clearer, quieter signals to your horse

It’s not about “correcting your position” —
it’s about changing the quality of how you move and respond.

BENEFITS

This work can help you:

  • Sit more lightly and comfortably for your horse

  • Reduce tension through the reins, seat and hips

  • Improve balance, posture and coordination

  • Feel more confident and present when riding

  • Support your horse to feel calmer and more responsive

  • Reduce back pain, joint discomfort and physical strain

Many riders find their horse feels the difference very quickly.

PAIN / INJURY

If you’re dealing with:

  • Back pain

  • Old injuries or recurring strain

  • Tension or discomfort when riding

  • Loss of confidence after a fall

This work can help you find a more supported and sustainable way of riding — without pushing through or bracing.

HOW LESSONS WORK

Lessons take place in my studio.

You work without your horse, so you can:

  • Focus fully on yourself

  • Develop balance, coordination and awareness

  • Make changes that carry directly into your riding

Many riders are surprised by how much this improves their riding — and how clearly their horse responds afterwards.

WHO IT’S FOR

Suitable for:

  • All levels of rider

  • Leisure riders and competitive riders

  • Riders returning after time off or injury

  • Anyone wanting a more comfortable, connected ride
