Alexander Technique Lessons for Horse Riders
“The Alexander Technique is one of the most valuable tools a rider can possess.”
Carl Hester, Gold Medallist, British Dressage Team, London 2012
Teaching Alexander Technique lessons for Horse Riding is a highlight of my teaching practice. The two disciplines are so well adapted for each other.
I bring years of experience and love of horses, an Equine Studies Ba Hons degree, my Alexander Teaching practice and drive to learn more all into one happy mix.
Equestrian Alexander Technique lessons will teach you to:
Reduce stress, both physical and emotional.
Manage back, joint and other chronic pain.
Understand body language and communication in more depth.
Improve balance and coordination.
Become more supple and elastic through back and seat.
Increase freedom in hands, arms and shoulders.
Improve sense of feel and contact with the horse.
Engage with your goals in a more thoughtful and logical way.
These skills are not limited to when you are riding, they can be very beneficial for all aspects of your life.
"It is only when we genuinely attempt to preserve our balance by suppleness and poise rather than strength of grip that we realise how difficult it is to distribute our weight equally on both seat bones"
The Way to Perfect Horsemanship by Udo Burger.
“The Alexander Technique removed a long standing back problem and improved my riding ability.
Riders who take up the technique always make a very significant improvement in their riding.”
Daniel Pevsner, Fellow of the British Horse Society
What I offer:
1-2-1- lessons are a perfect introduction to the technique or as a follow up to a group workshop. I offer individual lessons on the ground and then on horseback when it becomes appropriate. I teach from my studio in Portslade or am happy to arrange lessons with you and your horse within Brighton, Sussex and the South East.
Alexander Technique for Horse Riders Workshop:
I introduce the principles of the technique and work with both my hands and voice to explain and give pupils an understanding. I teach the basics of the Alexander Technique on the ground as it concerns the pupils’ habitual way of carrying themselves. This will be the same on the ground as it is on a horse and so this is a very informative approach. For any group wishing me to run this workshop please contact me directly to make an arrangement.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions regarding either 1-2-1 lessons or my group workshops or book online for individual lessons.
